FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q How long before the benefits from this supplement take effect?
A This may depend upon the level of cartilage loss. Cartilage repair can be a slow process, so allow 2-12 weeks for real benefits. Changing lifestyle habits, improved diet and reduced caffeine, alcohol and nicotine intake usually benefit this process.
Q How long will I need to stay on this product? Can it be taken long term?
A Following improvement, the dose may be reduced to a maintenance level. However, cartilage must be constantly replaced and if insufficient glucosamine is available in the body, symptoms may return, requiring long-term supplementation. A diet deficient in omega-3 essential fatty acids can also mean on-going supplementation is required to prevent joint discomfort.
Q What is cartilage?
A Cartilage is a natural connective substance that cushions joints and acts as a shock absorber between the bones that make up the joint. With constant wear and tear due to overuse or injury, occupational or sports activities and ageing, cartilage is worn away and must be replaced through the availability of glucosamine, a natural compound the used by the body to help rebuild and replace joint tissues.
Q What is Glucosamine?
A Glucosamine is used to form glycosaminoglycans – the naturally occurring building blocks of cartilage. These combinations of carbohydrate and protein molecules are essential for healthy joint tissues. However, as we age, or as the result of injury to cartilage, ligaments or tendons, our ability to provide these natural substances declines, so supplementation with glucosamine sulfate can help to provide the extra nourishment needed.
Q What are prostaglandins and how do they influence joint inflammation?
A Fish Oils provide a rich source of omega-3 essential fatty acids (EFAs). EFAs are used as the building blocks for membranes for every cell in the body and are precursors to prostaglandins, a class of hormone-like compounds that regulate body functions, including immune function and inflammation. Omega-3 EFAs help to regulate a specific class of prostaglandins, which have anti-inflammatory effects and are therefore helpful in supporting healthy joint mobility. The body cannot manufacture EFAs and so they must be supplied from the diet each day. Most Western diets supply an excess of omega-6 Fatty Acids, found mainly in meats and vegetable oils, and this can reduce the supply of omega-3 fatty acids and increase inflammatory conditions in the body.
